The literature search used the following terms, as well as their different combinations, as the search keywords: smartphone, i Phone, i Pad, phone, tablet, mobile devices, visual acuity, VA, eye screening, app, application, Snellen chart, Tumbling E chart, Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study chart, and ETDRS chart (Multimedia Appendix 1). We applied several inclusion criteria when identifying relevant studies for this research.
